SfE future governance
The consultation is closed,
but all the information is still here in this website so that you can read it before the AGM.
Thank you for showing an interest in the Society's governance.
What is this about?
The Society's Trustees would like to make some changes to how the Society is governed. Some of these were identified by the Trustees themselves, and some were proposed by the Society's solicitors and external governance adviser.
The Trustees set up a Steering Group to develop these proposals. The Steering Group is:
- Prof Marta Korbonits
- Dr Vicki Smith
- Mr Sherwin Criseno
- Prof Mark Gurnell
The Steering Group is supported by:
Kate Sargent, Laura Udakis and Laura Dudley from the Society's staff
Lucy Devine, the Society's governance adviser. Lucy is a Chartered Governance Professional.
Birketts LLP, the Society's solicitors.
What are the objectives?
- Update and simplify the Articles of Assocation, and correct inconsistencies
- Make the Society's governance more efficient and effective
- Support the Society's volunteers (eg Trustees, people on Committees)
- Give more clarity on Member rights
Why are the Trustees asking for your input?
The Society is a membership organisation, and Members are at the heart of what the Society does. The Trustees can propose changes to the Articles of Association, but only the Members can approve them. This is a fundamental, unchanging part of Society governance.
At the March AGM, the Trustees will formally ask for your approval to the changes. Therefore, over the next few weeks, we would like to understand what you think about the first draft of the proposals. We will then use your feedback to improve the proposals before we bring them back to you at the AGM.
Please give feedback by January 31st 2026 - thank you.
